iRex Case Study: Customized Potting Solution

Welcome to another installment in the iRex Case Studies video series, where we walk you through the engineered solutions our team creates that result in the best possible end product. Today we’re showing you a customized solution where one of our clients had an assembly with a fragile cable breakout, but the timeline and volume needed couldn’t justify traditional overmolding.

Our team was able to work alongside our sister company, TekRex, in order to design and 3D print a protective case for the breakouts, which our team then potted and assembled. All of this happened within a week, as opposed to the average 6 weeks it would have taken using traditional overmolding. Together, we were able to form a 3D printed solution that not only resolved the issue, but increased the overall performance as assembly time went down and throughput and build quality went up – just another day at the office for iRex.
