Eagle Insights: Tool Time – Hand Crimping

Tool time with iRex is a video series where our production experts walk you through a step by step demonstration showcasing proper cable tooling and production practices. Today we highlight our hand crimping procedure.

When starting the crimping process, you first must verify that the hand tool is the correct tool for the job. You do this by using the hand tool specification sheet to find the terminal part number, the strip length, crimp height and pull force. Once we’ve verified the hand tool you are utilizing is the correct tool for the job, we then insert it into the terminal and crimp making sure that the rachet mechanism cycle has been fully completed. We will then verify crimp height and visually inspect each wire for defects in insulation, strands or with the terminal for 100% accuracy.
